16/5/2013: Rainfall at Open City Docs
Following our screening at DocHeads back in March - part of a special program of hybrid shorts curated by the guys at Open City Docs - the line up for the OCD proper was launched last night. The festival is rapidly establishing a reputation as one of the key players in the capital’s festival calendar - bringing an exciting programme of over 100 docs to various London venues throughout June.
RAINFALL will be screening at Birkbeck Theatre on Saturday 22nd. For further information and to reserve your tickets, check out their website.
8/5/2013: Good News from Canada!
Early on Saturday morning it was announced that NOTES ON BLINDNESS: RAINFALL was the winner of the Best Short Award at the Hot Docs Film Festival. Unfortunately Peter and James weren’t there to collect the award in person, having flown back to the UK the night before the ceremony, but the announcement was the icing on the cake after a heavy week of schmooze and cinema for our errant directors.
Everyone here at Into Darkness HQ is blown away by the reaction to the film and grateful for all the support we have received to get us to this stage.
8/5/2013: Next Stop Sydney!
This morning it was announced that NOTES ON BLINDNESS: RAINFALL will have it’s eagerly anticipated Australian premiere at the Sydney International Film Festival. The film will be screening twice before the featurelength documentary The Search for Emak Bakia on 11th and 15th of June.
More information on the full festival line up and tickets information is available here.
22/4/13: Countdown to Hot Docs
Next Monday Rainfall will take its international bow on the festival circuit, screening at the Isabel Badar theatre at Hotdocs in Toronto. It’s the first of three screenings over the course of the festival. For further information and how to get tickets visit:
A huge thanks to the British Council, who have dug deep to fly directors James and Pete out to the festival through their wonderful Shorts Travel Grant Scheme. The guys will be in Toronto from Friday 26th until late on Wednesday 1st so please do get in touch with any inside advice on how to make the most of the festival.
01/04/2013: Creative England to Support Into Darkness
It’s been in the pipeline for some months now, but this morning we’ve finally had the fantastic news that Creative England - who administer regional arts funding on behalf of the National Lottery - will be supporting INTO DARKNESS. The funding will cover our development costs throughout the year, helping support James and Pete on the Doc Campus Masterschool, as well as the shoot of our new teaser/trailer - scheduled for June. Keep an eye on our website for more details…
19/03/2013: Rainfall to have International Premiere at Hotdocs 2013
We are incredibly excited to announce that our short NOTES ON BLINDNESS: RAINFALL has been selected for the prestigious HotDocs 2013 film festival in Toronto, Canada next month. The film will be in competition for the Award for Best Short Documentary, screening three times throughout the festival before the critically acclaimed feature THESE BIRDS WALK.
James and Pete are in the emptying the coffers to see if we can scrape together the price of a plane ticket to attend the festival, but if we don’t make it we’d certainly appreciate some local support from our friends across the pond.
21/02/2013: Collective Filmmaking at the 6th BFI Futures Festival
Co-directors of INTO DARKNESS Pete & James were invited on the panel for the BFI’s Futures Collective Filmmaking Forum last Saturday. NOTES ON BLINDNESS: RAINFALL also screened - the second time the film has played at the BFI Southbank in the last 4 months.
Hosted by IdeasTap the panel was all about bringing young filmmakers practical insights into collaborating with other creatives and where to look for funding for their projects. The event was part of the 6th BFI Future Film Festival, which featured a packed line up of workshops, masterclasses, screenings and Q&As over the course of the weekend.
